Although some medical communities lump the two procedures together, mesotherapy is a targeted, spot fat removal procedure designed to dissolve fatty deposits trapped in subdermal skin that are naturally excreted through the body. Mesotherapy uses injectible medication to dissolve the tissue and vitamins are also injected to stimulate healing and collagen production. Current lipodissolve procedures are frequently billed as “mesotherapy in the abdomen.” Mesotherapy is used for small spot fat reductions, or divot/dimple reduction frequently employed on the face and neck. Lipodissolve is usually associated with more substantial efforts to dissolve abdominal fat, love handles, and in general is considered an alternative to liposuction procedures that remove substantial fat deposits in the abdomen or thighs.

Experimental Procedure
The US Food and Drug Administration has not approved lipodissolve and the procedure is currently banned in a couple states, including Kansas, pending further clinical trials and review. Unlike CosMed’s standard mesotherapy practices, lipodissolve may have the potential to discharge melted fat into the blood and liver potentially resulting in overly-fatty liver conditions and possible strokes.
